On Monday 17th September, the Year 5/6 pupils started their first Independent Learning Project about “Energy” from the new Cornerstones curriculum. One of our first “engage” activities allowed the pupils to participate in an enjoyable workshop called Tunnels and Turbines that was provided by staff from Techniquest. In small groups, the children were challenged to create an object that would float within a wind tunnel. As well as expanding their science knowledge, the pupils were encouraged to develop their team-working and co-operation skills.

Another activity during our “engage” week was a walk around the locality where pupils were able to identify the range of different power that is used in our community. This information will help pupils to investigate renewable and non-renewable power sources. See below for pictures of the workshop and walk around the locality.
